An Alternative Job Strategy . . . What To Do When Your Job Search is A Disaster!

OK. I’m working my butt off to find a satisfying, good-paying job. No luck! Time for an alternative job strategy Why? Because whatever I’m doing now doesn’t work. And my job hunting efforts are a disaster!

For example, I’ve been waiting weeks, even months for a response and I’ve gotten nothing but a couple network marketing calls and lots of TNT (thanks but no thanks) emails.

Does this sound like you? Maybe this is how you think you should organize your job campaign activities:

1. Write a reverse chronology resume highlighting your work history and educational credentials.

2. Post your resume on two or three job websites like monster.com or hot jobs.com

3. Mail lots of resumes to a wide range of companies.

4. Contact some agencies and recruiters.

5. Answer a bunch of ads.

6. Wait for the phone to ring or a welcoming email to arrive

If this is what you’ve been doing, it's the reason why your job search is in trouble. You’re doing it backward!

You see, everything has changed since the days when this kind of passive, mass marketing approach worked. If you were working on your job search in the last century you’d probably have some luck. Those were that days when you could count on the numbers eventually working for you.

But this is the 21st Century. It’s time for an alternative job strategy. And like I said, everything’s changed . . . especially since 911 and Katrina. The reason things have changed is because the expectations of hiring managers have changed. Perhaps the biggest expectation is that a job candidate is expected to know something about the organization, its products or services and its goals.

Secondly, job candidates are expected to come to an interview with specific recommendations as to how they can make a contribution to the organization and its bottom line. An employer wants to know very specifically how you can make a difference. You need an alternative job strategy!

If you fail to make that connection for an employer, you just LOST! And the job opportunity will be offered to someone who can . . . regardless of what’s written on your resume.

So, go back and take a close look at how you’re conducting your job campaign. Are you doing the homework required to meet employers’ expectations? If your efforts look like the list above, you’re not. And you’ve condemned yourself to weeks and months of disappointment and disillusionment.

But the good news is that it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, there’s an exciting alternative job strategy that can have you entertaining a job offer in a matter of days! When you break away from the old-fashioned methods and explore an alternative job strategy, you can count on fast results!
